Essay on Concentration Camps for Japanese Americans

During WWII, many Japanese-American citizens were imprisoned. They were imprisoned for being from the Japanese decent. There was no evidence to convict these people but they still were imprisoned. Many Japanese came to the West Coast, which caused Americans some paranoia. Americans thought that the Japanese might be terrorists in disguise. In February of 1942, President Roosevelt ordered Americans of Japanese to be sent to concentration camps which were located in various areas of the United States. There were many aspects to the imprisonment of the Japanese-Americans such as their life before coming to the camps, the executive order 9066, and what it was like being in the concentration camps. The first aspect to the imprisonment of the†¦show more content†¦FDR gave the military powers to ban any Japanese citizen from a 60 mile wide coastal area. It stretched from Washington to California and eventually reaching southern Arizona. The military was also authorized to transport the citizens to assembly centers in states all in the west coast. The executive order also took a toll on some of the people who were of the Italian or German descent. Though they were arrested too, their punishments were unmeasurable to what was done to the Japanese. Obviously the Japanese were not too fond of the executive order of 9066, many died and were treated very harshly. Though the executive order of 9066 was a big aspect to the imprisonment of the Japanese, so was their life inside the concentration camps. The final aspect to the imprisonment of the Japanese was their lives in the concentration camps. One of the camps that was built was known as the Gila River Relocation Center. It was located in Arizona. There were about 13,000 people in this one camp. The camps were fenced and in each fence there were different blocks. The people in the camps dealt with many hardships. The camp was located in the desert so they were exposed to unbearable temperatures. The meals they ate consisted of fruits and vegetables that were grown on the land. The Success Of A Healthcare Organization - 835 Words

The success of a healthcare organization is governed by the many qualities and attributes its leaders possess when overseeing patient care. Such care, whether executed at the micro, meso, or macro level, can be beneficial to an organization or result in the failure when change is inappropriately addressed. Leaders, by using their knowledge and expertise, must promote care throughout all the numerous levels of management that is a replication of bureaucratic thoughts and principles or one that is a replication of the complex adaptive system. The complex adaptive system is a comprehensive system that is difficult in nature and often times can cause chaos and the failure of an organization when change is not properly managed. During the course of my profession, I have observed many styles of management skills and found this to be the most damaging one when change is implemented. I believe this style of control is what forces the good employees away. A prime example of this style of management was observed with the launching of computerizing charting. Computers, as you are familiar with can be challenging for some, and as well as, devastating. This is particularly true for the seasonal nurses who are not so reluctant to give in to any type of changes, and trying to comprehend something new can result in a toxic environment where chaos and conflicts are created. National Guard troops Free Essays

The United States is actively protecting its borders from terrorists, drug dealers, and increasingly, Mexicans. I would have said immigrants, in place of Mexicans, but I do not think this would be completely accurate. After all, President Bush recently said that he was sending National Guard troops to the Mexican – American border, not all the borders around our country. We will write a custom essay sample on National Guard troops or any similar topic only for you Order Now It is an interesting question how much this administration really cares about protecting the borders. One would think that if they were concerned about terrorism as much as they say, and take steps such as tapping domestic phone lines, keeping records of phone call of millions of Americans, and actively infiltrating and observing citizen groups that oppose them, then this administration would have militarized the borders long ago. But this has not been the case. It has not been until the beginning of an election year that this has become an issue. Millions of illegal immigrants have been streaming across our borders non-stop since the attacks on the World Trade Center, one would think that this would be the easiest way for any terrorist group to infiltrate the United States. But judging from this administration’s actions thus far, they do not seem to think so. There are many worse people that could easily find their way into our country than the average Mexican. The concern about border security should not focus on Mexicans, it should focus on terrorists groups that wish to do the country harm. The resources of the spy agencies of the United States should not be focused on American citizens and the imagined threat from â€Å"eco-terrorists. † It should be focused on stopping those individuals that truly wish to do this country harm from doing so. Comparing poems “Cousin Kate” and “Catrin” free essay sample

Conflict is presented in the poems â€Å"Cousin Kate† and â€Å"Catrin†. In the poems the conflict is based on the relationships between families. However, in â€Å"Cousin Kate†, the conflict is also in the class divide of a powerful lord and a poor maiden who I s controlled and abused by the lord. â€Å"Catrin† focuses on the bond between a mother and daughter and the conflict that relationship brings. The imagery in â€Å"Cousin Kate† conveys how the love between the lord and the poor maiden was only temporary. â€Å"He wore me like a golden knot, He changed me like a glove†. The clothing imagery illustrates that the women meant hardly anything to the man. She was just disposable, like an inanimate object. â€Å"A golden knot† portrays how the maiden was trapped in the relationship with the lord but it also refers to the temporary nature of their relationship. Knots can be easily untied. Contrastingly in â€Å"Catrin† the imagery is extended to demonstrate the permanence of the relationship between the mother and daughter. â€Å"Red rope of love† and â€Å"From the heart’s pool that old rope†. This metaphor implies the mental and physical bonds between the two people. Alliteration in â€Å"red rope† emphasises the sense of anger that love can sometimes cause. The rope is a metaphorical tie between the mother and daughter which connects the two, despite their differences. Furthermore the â€Å"red rope† contrasts with the colour of the white room. This depicts how the passion of the relationship stands out in the â€Å"hot, white room† of the hospital that is mentioned earlier in the poem. Extended imagery helps to establish how the love between the mother and daughter is unconditional and constant despite any conflict, unlike the relationship between the maiden and the lord in â€Å"Cousin Kate† where the persona is just tossed aside when a prettier woman comes along. At the end of the poem â€Å"Cousin Kate† alliteration is used to give a strong sense of protection. â€Å"Yet I’ve a gift you have not got†¦ cling closer, closer yet†. In this quotation there is a sense of irony, although the persona was cast aside by the lord, she has his heir. The alliteration highlights her fear for her son as she tries to protect him as she is afraid to lose him. Moreover in â€Å"Catrin† the final metaphor of the poem illustrates how the mother is trying to protect her daughter. â€Å"As you ask may you skate in the dark, for one more hour. † Gillian Clarke has chosen this metaphor because it is a question a child is most likely to ask, and something a parent would most likely refuse. â€Å"Dark† may show how there is still a lot that the mother doesn’t know about the child. Furthermore darkness is often related to the unknown, this tells us that the mother doesn’t know what will happen in the future so she is scared for her child. It could also refer back to the darkness of the womb, supporting the cyclical structure which was created with the imagery of the â€Å"red rope†. The mother is trying to protect her daughter from bad things, like the things that happened to the persona in â€Å"Cousin Kate†. In â€Å"Cousin Kate† dynamic verbs are used to show the emotional turmoil and agony that the persona goes through. â€Å"Moan†¦howl†¦. spit†. These animalistic verbs illustrate the predatorily nature of the lord as he hunts the women like a lion stalking it’s pray. Dynamic verbs make the reader feel more involved in the poem and create more of an atmosphere. This links to â€Å"Catrin† because Gillian Clarke also uses dynamic verbs, but to create a tone of war. â€Å"Fought†¦fighting†¦struggle†. This maximises the impact of the physical conflict between the mother and her child. The violence portrays the conflict between the mother and the child. They â€Å"struggle† for independence from each other, especially the daughter. She is trying to become her own person but the mother doesn’t what the daughter to leave in to the unknown. The war imagery allows the reader to see the household as a battle field where the two opposing forces clash with each other repeatedly. Personal pronouns are used in both poems to involve the reader. â€Å"You† is used to place the reader in the position of â€Å"Cousin Kate† in Christina Rossetti’s poem. It gives the reader a personal connection to the poem and makes them feel as though they are a part of the story. â€Å"You† is also the personal pronoun that is used in â€Å"Catrin†. This time the reader is put in the place of the child who again gives the reader a personal connection to the mother and the poem. The structures in the poems are very different. In â€Å"Cousin Kate† the six stanzas illustrate the drawn out pain and agony that comes with betrayal and heart break. It also conveys the shame of the suffering. Readers are taken on a journey through the difficult times the persona faces; they are taken through all the suffering that they have gone through. However in â€Å"Catrin† there are only two stanzas, this separates the time difference in the poem. In the first stanza the mother is looking back through her memories and remembering the labour of her child. Whereas in the second stanza, the reader is brought to the present where the mother is arguing with her daughter. The changes in time shows their shifting fight for independence and the conflict this brings. The poet takes us through the ups and downs of a mother daughter relationship and how the connection doesn’t diminish over time.

Vermont Trip Essay Research Paper VERMONT TRIPOn free essay sample

Vermont Trip Essay, Research Paper VERMONT Trip: On behalf of myself, and many other pupils, I would wish to officially turn to the Drug and Alcohol job that accompanied the 1999-2000 school twelvemonth Vermont trip. Many times I hold heard narratives about the? ill-famed? Vermont Ski trip, and the many illegal things that have occurred systematically throughout the old ages. To the best of my cognition this behaviour was ignored, overlooked, and typical of this trip. So in believing that this sort of? partying? was accustomed, I decided to take part along with several others who had attended past trips. At first I was hesitant in conveying anything, but after a twosome of conversations with certain persons, I was convinced that it would be wholly right to make so without any penalty being enforced. Therefore brought me to obtaining the? individual? bottle I was conveying for a friend, and I to consume with others, along with the other alcoholic drinks brought on the trip by my equals. We will write a custom essay sample on Vermont Trip Essay Research Paper VERMONT TRIPOn or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This brings us to the clip of going for Vermont, on Thursday March 17, 2000. At about 11:50 PM I arrived to lade the coach. At a small after 12:00 AM we left the Holley High School for Vermont, without? A BAG CHECK? by any of the seven chaperones. After a 10 hr thrust we arrived at our finish, Stowe Ski Resort. At around 4:30 PM we loaded the coach to travel to the Courtyard By Marriot, the hotel in which we would be remaining at for the balance of the trip. Following our reaching we were given the room assignments, we so unpacked our bags rapidly, and my roomies and I hid the intoxicant that we each brought under our beds. After that a bulk of us pupils went to the pool, and jacuzzi for a swim before our expected 7:00 PM dinner clip. Dinner lasted for about a half an hr, to 45 proceedingss, and shortly after I so once more went to the pool with a twosome of people for another swim. Around 8:30 PM I returned upstairs to a friends room, where I so received a phone call from one of my roomies inquiring me if I planned on returning to our room to? drink. ? I answered hesitatingly, but after a small debating I decided to travel back to my room. At that minute I merely returned, to alter out of my swim apparels, before I headed back to the friends room. While I was in my room altering I was asked by two of my roomies to compare their drinks, and decipher which was better. This so proves that the intoxicant, both mine, and my roomies, had already been out and consumed long earlier I foremost returned. After that, I went to my friends room and we both so returned to my room at about 9:00pm. Upon reaching we had found six other people in my room already at that place for one intent. I so proceeded to inquire one of my roomies where the bottles were, he so replied? in the spirits cabinet, ? certain enough there I found all the intoxicant moved from under the beds where I last knew it to be, into the topographic point where I was hive awaying my apparels. At that minute I removed? the bottle? from the cabinet to go through around to my friends. First I had opened the bottle so that everyone could smell the Butter Scotch olfactory property. After go throughing it about to all eight people including myself. , we so all took? one babe sip? from the bottle. A few minutes after that most of the people in my room decided to travel take a swim. Then three female pupils left to travel alteration into their swimming garb, go forthing my friend, three of my roomies, and myself in the room. At this point the bottle had been sealed for a twosome of proceedingss. I was so listening to one of my roomies tell a narrative, while the other two changed. During this short period of clip there was a knock on the door, and Mr. Orbaker who was the ski trip adviser, walked into the room to see me keeping the bottle in my custodies. After I got done listening to my roomies narrative I so noticed Mr. Orbaker standing in the hallway staring at me. He so motioned for me to walk over to him, as I did he signaled for the bottle, grabbed the spirits and proceeded to state? manner to be an *censored* ? and he so exited the room. Five proceedingss following the above incident he returned to the room, so started shouting at us with profane words. Shouting at us he so mentioned how he, has my room with intoxicant, one room smoke coffin nails, and another room illuming a bowl full of Marijuana. Furiously he following told everyone to acquire to their suites and dispose of anything we didn? T want him to see, because there? might be? a bag and room cheque. At this minute two of my roomies rapidly emptied their intoxicant into the sink and conceal the empty bottles. Moments subsequently he so went to every room and told them to free of anything that was inappropriate on this trip, and how their might be cheques through the dark, and we had to kip with our doors open. At 10 PM all pupils on the trip turned in for the dark. To the best of my memory he was merely look intoing suites to see if we were prosecuting in any type of? partying. ? Approximately at 11:45pm he stopped all room cheques in which there were neer any complete hunts of the room or bags. This completes our first dark in Vermont. When my room woke up in the forenoon a parent chaperone came to our room to state us to acquire rid of everything we had cause Mr. Orbaker was believing about a bag cheque. Which I might add one time once more, neer occurred. We left the hotel at about 7:45 AM for Sugarbush Ski Resort. As I got on the coach the first thing he said to me was? what are you making here? ? I replied with ? what? ? he so proceeded to state? I thought you came here to party. ? Following that I merely sat down in my place without stating a word to anyone. As we were on our manner to Sugarbush he decided to speak to the group as a whole. Over the loud talker he went on to state us how he was really pissed off, and disappointed in us for making what we did the dark earlier. Then he went on to state he knows it was more than merely one of us and how we were all guilty, nevertheless there were a few guiltless people and they know who they were. After the 10 minute talk he finished it up by saying that we would be halting at the shop on the manner place. As he said that he made a cleft how my room ( room 201 ) would be better off if we picked up some Tylenol for our concerns, and how another room would profit by purchasing Nicotine spots for their dependence. We following arrived at Sugarbush and he told us that he didn? T attention whether we had merriment or non do we already ruined his trip. Besides that if there were any more jobs we would be sent place early. After skiing about 4pm we made our manner back to the hotel, but foremost we made a halt at the food market shop so we all could pick up snack points. We arrived at the hotel around 5-5:30 PM, and so went on with our dark like nil had happened. At around 8:00 PM a pupil from another room took me up to the 3rd floor and show ed me where his room had thrown out their intoxicant. There I saw three full bottles of spirits in the underside of the refuse can. I asked the pupil when they threw the intoxicant out and he said merely after dinner on Saturday dark. So about 24 hours after my incident, there was still alcohol in many pupils ownership, which in my eyes shows that Mr. Orbaker neglected his responsibilities as a chaperone, by non seeking every room, every bag, and every anything. Subsequently that dark at 10 PM we had what I guess is the one-year pizza party in Vermont, which allowed us to remain out of our suites until 10:45 PM. At that clip we had to maintain our doors unfastened like we had the old dark, so he could look into in on us. Despite of the curfew set Forth by Mr. Orbaker, he himself allowed two pupils stay downstairs and converse with one of the male childs relations. At about 12 AM the two male childs returned upstairs and went to bed. In the meanwhile Mr. Orbaker had been executing his small room cheques and kept inquiring my room if the two pupils had returned. Our room replied? No? because one of the male childs was remaining in my room so we knew they hadn? T returned. To me this shows how a small favouritism was exemplified by Mr. Orbaker. This now brings us to our concluding twenty-four hours on the trip, Sunday forenoon. We had all gotten up and on the coach like the twenty-four hours before, but this clip without any remarks to certain persons. We left for Sugarbush around 7:45 AM. On our manner at that place he once more came on over the loud talker and told us how last dark was better, but how he hadn? T forgotten, and how he wanted us to maintain the trip positive, non negative. After skiing till 3 PM we loaded the coach and left for place. The whole manner place there were no jobs or anything said about Friday darks debacle. As we arrived in Brockport one time once more he used the loud talker to province that the trip ended much better than it had started, and when speaking to people outside of the ski nine maintain the trip positive and everything will be all right. Besides as we pulled into the school parking batch, he made the same statement one time once more, as above, and how we were all to be in school for home room. The following forenoon I got up and came to school like any other twenty-four hours, and candidly expected everything to be all right like nil happened. Just after 3rd period a member from the ski nine rushed up to me and told me how they had merely talked to Mr. Orbaker. They told me that Mr. Orbaker said to them? retrieve how I told you guys to maintain the trip positive, well it? s excessively late it? s out and I had to describe it to Mr. Camuto. ? I so in a terror ran to Mr. Orbaker and asked him what was traveling to go on and he said how that he had to compose me up, how he had to compose up that he smelt coffin nail fume, and marijuana fume. During the center of 4th period I was called down to the office to talk with Mr. Camuto. When I arrived he asked me about the state of affairs and I proceeded to state him what went on. I neer one time lied to him about anything that happened. I was so told by Mr. Camuto how I would have 5 yearss in ISS, and lose all extra-curricular privileges for the following 20 hebdomads. I so asked Mr. Camuto what was go oning with anybody else and he said that there was non much they can make because Mr. Orbaker merely saw me. I so asked him what was traveling to go on to the room where Mr. Orbaker smelt the marihuana, this clip I was told that there was small checking they had to make and that they still had to speak to the male childs that occupied that room. Subsequently that twenty-four hours as I was sitting in the ISS room I heard over the loud talker the male childs that were in the room associated with the marihuana fume called down to the office. To my surprise cipher else joined me that twenty-four hours in ISS. At the terminal of the twenty-four hours I asked a friend what went on with the? pot tobacco users? and I was told how they all denied it, and merely said people kept coming in and out of their room the whole dark so they had no hint who was smoking. I so went place around 2:30 PM to state my parents what went on, but when I got home Mr. Camuto had already contacted my female parent and asked for a meeting the following afternoon with himself, my parents, Mr. Orbaker, and I. So the following twenty-four hours at 3:30 PM my parents and I walked into Mr. Camuto? s office to happen that he had no thought where Mr. Orbaker was. About 10 proceedingss subsequently Mr. Orbaker showed up and explained he was late due to the fact his Canis familiaris had ran off, and he had merely found him so he had to take the Canis familiaris place foremost. The first thing said in the meeting was my parents inquiring Mr. Orbaker for his side of the narrative. In which the narrative was the same as my parents had heard from both Mr. Camuto, and I. Following my male parent went on to inquire why I was the lone 1 in problem for the full trip. Alternatively of replying the inquiry they decided to work around it and state how I was caught with the bottle in my custodies. Following I asked Mr. Camuto once more what was go oning with the? pot tobacco users? and he so told me? what can he make, they can? t prove who did it so they can? t punish anyone? . I so said? good penalize everybody? and he replied with? we can? t do that. ? The meeting concluded with my parents stating that? because our boy told the truth and didn? t prevarication, he? s traveling to take the penalty for the full trip, ? and besides how we would wish to speak to Mr. Pileggi about the incident and the fact of how the policy should be changed in a twosome of ways. Mr. Camuto so said? I? ll talk to Mr. Pileggi in the forenoon and give you a call back tomorrow on what he would wish to make. ? To put the record straight it has been 3 yearss since the meeting, and STILL NO CALL Back from MR. CAMUTO, and I would wish to add my male parent has called Mr. Camuto and left messages at least two different times for Mr. Camuto to name him back. On Friday during the twenty-four hours I decided to travel to his office personally and inquire about what had been done. Mr. Camuto told me how he had talked to Mr. Pileggi Wednesday forenoon and Mr. Pileggi did non cognize what he would wish to make, and every bit shortly as he found out he would reach us instantly. In decision I am left no other pick but to take affairs into my ain custodies because my parents and I are tired of being blown off by Mr. Camuto. I would besides wish to province that in no manner am I stating I shouldn? T be punished or that the penalty is in appropriate. I would merely wish to see others who were involved merely every bit much, or more than me be punished to the fullest extent of the school policy as I am. In my sentiment there should be many other pupils sitting out in their spring athletics, holding their National Honor Society rank revoked, and non go toing the prom merely like me. I would wish to cognize since when in this universe is stating prevarications acceptable and stating the truth gets you into 10 times every bit much problem. Thank you for the clip and consideration,

Massachusetts Constitution essays

Massachusetts Constitution essays The Great Awakening was the religious revival that swept through the world in the mid 1700s. In the colonies it was the beginning of Evangelical Calvinism, and was centered mainly in the South. Johnathan Edwards was a Congregational Pastor in Northampton Connecticut. He was extremely outspoken for justification by faith alone. In essence it was Gods will that you did things a certain way. The Zenger Trial was the first victory for The Freedom of the Press. It was a libel suit brought against a printer by the name of John Peter Zenger by the then Governor of New York William Cosby. Alexander Hamilton was Zengers lawyer he argued that the people themselves were intelligent enough to determine what was real and what was false. The jury acquitted Zenger because they said that all of his information was based on truths not lies. Common Sense was an article written by Thomas Paine in 1776. If not for Zengers Trials Common Sense would have received the same treatment as Zengers New York Weekly Journal had. The Hanover Kings were a royal bloodline in England. The first one was George I. During the time of the American Revolution George II was fighting with The House Of Burgesses about his right to power. These domestic problems that Britain was having made it tough for them to keep an eye on the colonies. This allowed for the Revolution to build and eventually take place. Fort Necessity was taken from George Washington during the French and Indian War. It was a major piece of land that was militarily powerful. The war seemed hopeless for the British until William Pitt realized that the American Colonies could be the winning point of the war, so he sent in more supplies and backed the fighting here more heavily than in other areas. Real Estate Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Real Estate Law - Essay Example While denying Steinichen's motion for new trial, the trial court ruled that Steinichen gave up her right to point to the special master's report and the trial court's judgment by running out to object to the report before the trial court adopted it. On further appeal, Steinichen argues that this ruling was error. Thus, the Trial court's judgment was reversed and the case was remanded to the trial court for it to address the merits of Steinichen's motion for new trial(http://www.lexisone.com/lx1/caselaw/freecaselawaction=FCLRetrieveCaseDetail&caseID=7&format=FULL&resultHandle=ae14b712d0559ea22a3d8054440e2522&pageLimit=10&xmlgTotalCount=89&combinedSearchTerm=adverse+possession&juriName=Georgia&sourceFile=STATES;GACTS accessed on 21 October 2009). At issue is title to a rectangular-shaped piece of real property with dimension of 25 feet by 75 feet in Hoschton, Georgia. The appellant filed an appeal to quiet title against the entire world with regard to four contiguous parcels of real property. The appellee and the owner of the property adjacent to that of appellant, Larry Stancil, filed an answer and counterclaim in which he contended he held fee simple title to the property at issue. Consistent to OCGA 23-3-63, the case was presented to a special master who quieted title to three of the four Tracts in Stancil after ruling that Steinichen had failed to present evidence-establishing title to those parcels. As to the fourth parcel, the special master ruled that Steinichen had failed to carry her burden of proof to establish title, and that Stancil had presented sufficient evidence to establish adverse possession under color of title as well as prescriptive title without color of title. The trial court figured an order assuming the findings and the testimonial of the special master and announced Stancil as the holder of fee simple title to all the property in dispute. This appeal follows the denial of Steinichen's motion for new trial (http://www.lexisone.com/lx1/caselaw/freecaselawaction=FCLRetrieveCaseDetail&caseID=7&format=FULL&resultHandle=ae14b712d0559ea22a3d8054440e2522&pageLimit=10&xmlgTotalCount=89&combinedSearchTerm=adverse+possession&juriName=Georgia&sourceFile=STATES;GACTS accessed on 21 October 2009). Appellee's Argument Steinichen does not take issue with the trial court's finding that she was not able to prove her title to the disputed tract. Instead, she maintains that the manifest was deficient to back up the conclusion that Stancil had gained the property by adverse possession. "To establish title by adverse possession, whether by twenty years or seven years under color of title, a party must show possession not originated in fraud that is public, continuous, exclusive, uninterrupted

Competition in my life. (Any story of competition that I might Essay

Competition in my life. (Any story of competition that I might encountered in life, and so on. look for instructiions) - Essay Example I know how it feels to be awake on a chilly morning going for endless laps. However, not all this has been in vain, as I have won a few medals, excelled in some races and even lost in others. This essay is a narration of one of the most memorable swimming competition in my life. It was an early Thursday morning when all the members of the swim team assembled in the school swimming pool for a warm up session on the day of the competition. Our coach was enthusiastic and gave us an encouraging speech after the warm up session (Ramsay 106). I would take part in four swimming events including the 400 free, 200 free relay, 50 free and 100 free. I was under intense pressure to give an outstanding performance, as this was my specialized swimming style. On the other hand, I was nervous, as it was the first race I had taken part in with so many experienced swimmers. The first race that I took part in was the 50 free and I was in the third lane. The referee instructed all the swimmers to step up and the pool seemed unusually longer. The gun went off and the referee shouted ‘GO!’ All the six competitors dove into the water and the water felt so cold that I felt dizzy. The race was faster than I expected and I came out forth. I had hoped for a better performance and promised myself to do better in the remaining races (Ramsay 106). When I went back to my team members, they patted me on the back and told me that I had done well as all the other team members had performed worse in other races. To my utter surprise, this was the best time I had ever clocked in this race. I could only hope for an improved performance in the remaining races. The 100-meter race was no different, my opponents seemed taller and stronger, and this intimidated me. However, I did not give up as I could see my teammates, friends and family cheering me on from the bleachers. When the gun went off, I dove in the waters hoping for a better performance. This time I emerged third as

Report Of Coca Cola Marketing Analysis Marketing Essay

Report Of Coca Cola Marketing Analysis Marketing Essay The operating environment of our company contains two parts: the macro-environment and the micro-environment. Macro-environment: Entering into the 21st century, the material production of the society has been abundantly riched and the standard of living of people has been greatly improved. The UK beverage market is going through an environment of constantly meeting the material and cultural needs of people. The consumption concept of pursuing healthy and fashionable lifestyle becomes more and more important. People constantly strive for excellence and dedicate to the pursuit of aggressiveness. The number of people that concern about the nature and health is constantly increasing, while some products of the Coca-Cola and their fashion sense and metropolitan image are consistent with the characteristics of modern peoples entertainments and the development of living space(Wette Kristensen,2005). They also comply with the demand of low calorie of the consumers, so it will be subject to the general consumers. Micro-environment: Generally speaking, Coca-Cola has the stable and strong suppliers and intermediaries with scale. The supply chain is relatively clear. It can constantly adjust its supply chain and value chain according to the actual situation. This has great relationship with creating the stable kingdom of Coca-Cola(Jens Rupp,2009). There are basically only two competitors within the industry of the US soft drinks for the two companies account for 70% market shares. But there are some differences between these two brands in the customer experience and the impression. Both have a long history and great advertising investment. The influence of history and advertisements make the two brand Coca-Cola and Pepsi become the symbol of American culture. For various reasons they form a great industrial monopolies. Currently Coca-Cola continues to develop to a new direction. (2)Competitive regional analysis The main rival of Coca-Cola in the beverage market is the other existing competitors and potential competitors. Among them, the existing competitors include foreign competitors and local competitors. The foreign competitors-Pepsi Cola is the largest available competitor. Pepsi Cola is one of the worlds most successful companies of consumer goods. The two companies monopolize the cola market in the world (Eileen P,Anderson-Fye ,2004). Currently in the UK, they are popular in different cities. The local brands are Coca-Colas local competitors. These brands in the UK have a relatively fixed group of consumers and the local consumers have formulated certain consumption habits, which is also a strong rival of Coca-Cola. (3)SWOT Analysis Advantage (strength) The worlds largest soft-drink giant, it has the advantages of strong manufacturers and great global competitiveness. Strong marketing capabilities, systems and corporate advertising. Brand image grows deeply in peoples minds, has become one part of consumers life. The Mystery formulations of the core product are extremely confidential, so its popular for 100 years without failure. Access deployment is rather complete, and has the strong sales channels of fast food.Innovative and highly competent, the most representative product is the launch of Diet Coke.High market share, more market leading brand products.Products have the characteristics of convenience, the unique flavor and the fair price and so on.Product life cycle has the patterns of loop recycling, remains intact.Recently it announces that the employee stock option is one part of salary transfer fee, which will fully reflect the financial condition of enterprises. Disadvantage (weakness) Large organizations, control is not easy.Consumers stereotypes to the products unhealthy beverages containing the ingredients of caffeine in cola, and could easily lead to obesity and other health problems. The product identification of major consumer groups (younger) is slightly worse than Pepsi. Access of bottled drinks is over the wide range and its more difficult to control the final product quality of consumers. Opportunity General soft drinks industry can enter into the industry with low barriers, however its hard to develop into the cross-marketing level.Carbonated beverages are more suitable for the demand of the younger, especially for Latin America and the Asia-Pacific countries. The proportion of young people is rapidly improving which brings the industry more business.Brand image of beverage has a deep influence to the sales condition. Threat The alternative of other Non-cola carbonated beverage products of other alternative is still quite possible. The pursuit of health consumers will definitely reduce the consumption of carbonated beverages. The competition of beverage market competition is quite fierce. The main rival Pepsi is a huge threat. Over the past few years, the performance of Coca-Cola is stagnant while the Pepsi is continuous growing. (4)PEST Analysis: Analysis of political and legal factors: the British political environment is stable, the production is developing and people live and work with high level. The legal system is more perfect. Coca-Cola has to be in accordance with the British laws and regulations when takes various marketing activities to achieve better development in the UK. This can bring more advantages and opportunities to Coca-Cola. Analysis of economic environment factor: the treatment of the UK to the foreign investors is very favorable. Foreign and British businesses get the same tax, financial subsidies, new technology development subsidies. Because of the complete base facilities, transport facilities, communication equipment, stable political environment and other advanced and favorable conditions, they are enormously attractive to foreign investors. In addition, the UK is a developed country and has a relatively high level of economic development. (Springer US,2003). So the product quality competition is more important that the price competition if Coca-Cola want to be well developed in the UK. Analysis of technical factor: due to the rapid development of science and technology, the cycle of using new technology in new product has been greatly shortened. The product renewal of beverage industry has speed up. At the same time the promotions are becoming more diverse. Analysis of Social and human factors: the UK is a country filled with elegant atmosphere. But it also has the side of young and enthusiastic. The British are taking care of the life quality and spiritual enjoyment. 2. Marketing positioning (1) Market Segmentation 1) segment by the purchasers age: According to the market survey, the main consumers of Coca-Cola are the younger with the age from 15 to 34. They account for more than half of the whole consumer group. The young generation are open-minded and they pursuit healthy, fashionable and high-quality life. Therefore the natural and healthy Coca-Cola which is consistent with the trend can meet their requirements. 2) segment by the purchasing factors: Interest segments of market age numbers psychology preferable brand taste Heavy consumer Pursuit fashion and trendy and like to buy foreign brands Soda product Health and beauty 20-34 Heavy consumer Pursuit fashion, health and leisure, with more pressure and eager to relax Functional beverage or packaged water with caffeine and vitamins Health and care >35 Light consumer Conservative, pursuit stability, peace and the longevity of life Healthy and nutritious (2) Target Market Through market segmentation, we decide to choose the 18-29 year old consumer group as our target market. Because the consumers with this age are the main consumers of the Coca-Cola products. Besides, as there are lots of universities in Britain, the target group can form the market that is large enough and has some potential. Moreover, since the consumption attitudes of college students change and the income levels of young white-collar increase, the purchasing ability of the group has been improved in some extent. Meanwhile the young people have a higher Coca-Cola brand loyalty. As long as our products can make a breakthrough on taste and function, it will win the consumers heart easily. Develop with the way of regional agency, that is using large cities such as London, Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Liverpool and so on to drive the small market. Take the chains and supermarkets as the main distributors. (3) Marketing Strategy Coca-Cola is an enterprise that keeps pursuitting innovations. After successful developed the non-cola carbonated drink smart series, it introduced a natural non-carbonated fruit juice and successful realizes the product diversification. Its product is coherent. On the other hand, as the boss of beverage industry, Coca-Cola has a clear competitive advantage.(Fiona Scott Morton,Florian Zettelmeyer,2004). First of all, it maintains a concentric development and its own technology, equipment, staff, cost and other advantages provide a solid backing to the development of tea drinks. Second, the Coca-Cola has the worlds most mature, stable production capacity and the fastest distribution channels. The market of tea drinks becomes a corollary. In the end Coca-Cola has a well brand reputation. So we put the favorable market segment as a starting point and focus the strength and advantages of the enterprise in one market segment to obtain success. And then through the spread role of the targe t market to enlarge the vertical depth of consumers. (4)The effect of marketing strategy Segment the market by selecting the 18-34 years of age to learn the needs of market segments and take intensive marketing activities. Then the strong market position can be achieved in the market segments. The enterprise can save substantial operation costs and win the high return on investment as a result of specialized production, distribution and promotion. 3. The Impact of African-American Sitcoms on Americas Culture Essay

The Impact of African-American Sitcoms on America's Culture Since its start, the television industry has been criticized for perpetuating myths and stereotypes about African-Americans through characterizations, story lines, and plots. The situation comedy has been the area that has seemed to draw the most criticism, analysis, and disapproval for stereotyping. From Sanford and Son and The Jefferson’s in the 1970s to The Cosby Show (1984) and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in the 1990s, sitcoms featuring black casts and characters have always been controversial. However, their significance upon our American culture cannot be disregarded. During the 1950s and 1960s, 97% of the families were Caucasian. In the first five years of the 1990s, nearly 14% of the television families were African-American (Bryant 2001). These statistics obviously show the substantial impact our American culture has had on African-American television families. Sanford and Son was set in the early 1970s. They were a very low class, low-income family that was very disjointed. The father, Sanford, spent most of his time drunk and putting his son down. There were few, if any, family values emphasized. The only positive message conveyed was that the son and dad loved each other. One of the next popular African-American shows to appear was The Jefferson’s. It was about a nouveau riche African-American couple, George and Louise Jefferson. Jefferson was a successful businessman, millionaire and owned seven dry cleaning stores. They lived in a ritzy penthouse on the East Side. In fact, the theme song referred to the fact that they â€Å"were movin’ on up!† They lived their lives filled with money and success. This sitcom emphasized positive African-American stereotypes, such as honesty, love, strong family values, and success. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air also demonstrated that the problems money can bring were not confined to one race. Starting with Sanford and Sons through the progression of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it is evident that the changes transpiring in society are slowly entering the television industry. What would have been acceptable in the 1970s would be totally unacceptable in this day. No longer is an African-American father in a sitcom shown as a worthless, rude individual. The father figure is now shown more as a responsible, loving, and moral person with more realistic faults. Color now seems, through evolution, to be taken out of the equation for the African-American television families. Explain Why It Is Difficult to Talk Meaningfully About God Essay

Religious language is defined as the communication of ideas about God, faith, belief and practice. This definition makes it difficult to talk meaningfully about it as each of these words have concepts behind them and each and every individual interprets these differently, so religious language is different to everyday language, as it only denotes to an individual’s belief and faiths traditions. There are also many problems with religious language as a whole as it anthropomorphises God, by using terminology such as ‘Him’ ‘King’ and ‘Shepherd’ this is limiting and subjects God to have human qualities, which is against what The Bible wants to portray God as. Also another problem is that some think that religious language is cognitive, thus something must be known about God to talk meaningfully about it. Yet this creates the problem that religious statements are not about objective facts that can be proved true or false but are answers to questions that are unable to be validated, as they are based on objective facts that are open to cognition. These issues have led to religious believers to find ways in which they can talk about God in a meaningful way and the opposite as non-believers are searching for ways to render religious language meaningless. A group of philosophers called the logical positivists who as a group did not seek to understand how we gain knowledge of the external world, but how we use language to convey it. They believed that everything that can be verified is meaningful. Thus the verification principle was developed which stated that if it could be empirical tested by the five senses then it was meaningful, for example, a house is made of gingerbread, is meaningless as it can be proved false by taking stone samples from the house. Yet this causes a problem when talking about philosophical and religious aspects. The logical positivists thought it was pointless to talk about art, music, ethic and God as it could never be verified, so couldn’t be rendered true or false. Therefore it is meaningless as it is used to consider things beyond the human experience and this creates the ‘impossibility’ to understand to meaning of anything being said. A. J. Ayer; a logical positivist introduces two types of verification, strong and weak, to deal with the acceptation of scientific and historical propositions which are struggling to regard as meaningful or not. Strong verification is when there is absolute no doubt that a statement is true, as it is verified through sense, for example, ‘It is sunny today’. Yet weak verification occurs when some of the observations are not conclusively true or false, for example, ‘humans are made of atoms’ as this may be accepted by people who were at the time of the discovery, also future scientific statements are verified by the weak, as they will only be affirmed in the future not at present. The falsification principle created by Flew, stated that religious statements are meaningless as there nothing which can count against a religious believer, as they will not count or accept any of the evidence against their faith. Criticism ‘dies the death of a thousand qualifications’. For example Flew used the story of a father of a terminally ill child, prayed for God to make their child better, but the child died, the father qualifies this by saying it was God’s decision and maybe God’s love is ‘not merely human love’. Tillich believed that religious language was meaningful as it was conveyed through metaphors and symbols, however philosophers such as Paul Edwards thought that revelation could not be portrayed through the verification principle using empirical evidence therefore symbols don’t elude any factual knowledge, and are meaningless. Another critique of Tillich is that he stated that metaphors and symbols can be mistranslated and over time the original meaning may have been lost or forgotten therefore considering symbols meaningless as the meaning may have been changed from what was originally intended to represent. Also with the criticism that symbols can be interpreted in any way the individual wants to, this is demising the ultimate truth of reality it is trying to convey as it may point in a different direction as to which was also originally intended. Overall, the verification and the falsification principles argue that it is not possible to talk about God meaningful way as it is not possible to prove the existence of God of go verify any of the statements related to God.

Free Essays on Female Desire

On October 21, 2004, I turned into NBC Today at around 7:30 AM and watched a program entitled â€Å"Lustful men are little devils, but women are often tramps†, which discussed the idea that our society still is not comfortable with the idea of female desire. The program was presented by Brian Alexander, who is a California-based writer who covers sex, relationships and health for NBC today. He does this along with his duties as a contributing editor at Glamour, one of the nation’s leading fashion magazines. In the program, viewers were informed that for a few years now, some women have been using testosterone gels and creams obtained from compounding pharmacies in an effort to boost a waning sex drive, often brought on by menopause. And recently, Proctor & Gamble announced data from clinical trials of its Intrinsa patch for women. Should the patch be approved for sale, making it the first drug treatment for female sexual dysfunction on the market and likely cause other companies to follow and reap huge economic rewards for this. However, despite the recent attention to this issue, about 30 years ago doctors noticed that women given testosterone-related steroids for treatment of medical conditions reported a sex drive boost as a side effect. During these intervening three decades, as many as half of all women are estimated to have been suffering from low libido and other sexual problems. I felt that the program brought up some very interesting issues that I’ve found to be true in my experiences. Commonly, I hear on TV and radio about the various types of male enhancement drugs such as Viagra, Levetra, and other forms of male enhancement used in the treatment of sexual dysfunction. It was rare to hear someone like Mr. Alexander speak on the opposite side of the topic, a side that, in agreement, I felt is not discussed in our American society today. Free Essays on Gates

WASHINGTON (CNN/Money) - The government hammered away at Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates in court Tuesday, attempting to portray him as an unreliable witness. And at one point Gates offered to alter his sworn testimony, landing a solid blow against Microsoft's position. The courts have found that Microsoft violated antitrust laws. The current hearings, under U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, will decide what restrictions will be imposed on Microsoft as a remedy for that illegal behavior. Gates has repeatedly complained that the remedies under consideration would be technically impossible to comply with or would force Microsoft to withdraw its Windows operating system from the market and force widespread layoffs at the company. The Department of Justice and half of the states involved in the original antitrust case reached a settlement with Microsoft in November. But nine states California, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Utah and West Vi rginia, along with the District of Columbia broke with the Justice Department's remedy proposal, arguing that it wasn't strong enough. Judge Kollar-Kotelly will decide what sort of remedies are appropriate based on the hearings now in their sixth week. Steven Kuney, who represents the states, continued his cross-examination of Gates, who first took the stand late Monday morning. Free Essays on Gates Free Essays on Gates WASHINGTON (CNN/Money) - The government hammered away at Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates in court Tuesday, attempting to portray him as an unreliable witness. Class Actions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Class Actions - Essay Example wsuit on behalf of several thousand or a larger group of unnamed plaintiffs who share common grievances caused by similar actions, products or defects such as consumer products, pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices and motor vehicles. People have also submitted class actions with regards to corporate misconduct, employment practices, consumer fraud and securities fraud. A class action is the best way of handling cases with similarly situated and multiple plaintiffs. This is so because, many a times, there are many people who have suffered similar or same injuries, and their individual injuries are minor, as such, they might not independently pursue legal redress. However, there are instances in which it may be impractical to submit individual lawsuits, especially when the numbers of those affected by defective products or conduct of actions is high (Hensler, 2001). As a result, class actions have become an efficient way of bringing together and disposing off thousands of claims that would otherwise be impractical to be individually litigated. Class actions still remain the most viable way of handling thousands of similar claims since it aggregates small claims, thereby lowering the cost of litigation. Class actions also ensure that all plaintiffs, both unnamed and named, receive some compensation (Backhaus et al., 2012). Backhaus, J. G., Cassone, A., & Ramello, G. B. (2012). Marketing communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Marketing communication - Essay Example In this report, we are going to develop a marketing communication plan for the center in order to improve the business by making the center more attractive and eye-catching for the public. The marketing plan will include such strategies which will play their role in creating awareness among the public about the facilities and entertainment provided by Viejas Outlet Center. Luther (2001) found that analysis of the current situation of any company or firm is necessary before development of a marketing plan. It is because analysis lets us know about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats regarding any specific company for which the plan is to be developed. So in the case of Viejas Outlet Center, we carried out a thorough analysis regarding the current business situation of the outlet in order to know the defficiencies and strengths regarding the outlet. Strengths of the outlet include entertainment spots and various other facilities such as casino, shopping stores, danceclubs, restaurants, and water fountain for the children. These facilities are good enough to attract the customers towards the outlet but it needs a suitable marketing plan in order to creae awareness among the public. The major drawback of Viejas Outlet Center is its marketing strategy. The marketing strategy has a lot of flaws in it due to which the outlet is unable to attract the public. Marketing plan is very old fashioned and is not adjustable with the demands of modern marketing strategies and tactics. Threats to the Viejas Outlet Center include creation of other outlets in the reigon which may not have such faciltities and entertainment spots as the Viejas Outlet Center holds, but the effective marketing strategies of the new outlets may provide them with dominance or egde over Viejas Outlet Center. That is why, Viejas Outlet Center needs to have an effective and innovative

U.S. vs. Japan Economies Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

U.S. vs. Japan Economies - Assignment Example Unemployment in Japan surpasses that of United States, meaning that Japan does not match U.S.A in employing labor resources in her labor market. The labor market is fundamental in triggering economic growth through employment opportunities (Katzner, 2008). In this respect, both Japan and the United States utilize their relative human resources differently. On the same note, the human resources in Japan are subject to government control, while in the United States these resources function based on demand and supply forces. Investment resources constitute another critical aspect that these two countries differ in their pursuit for economic growth. Major players in the U.S economy are private stakeholders. On the same note, both the public and private sectors coexist and complement each other in inducing economic growth (Katzner, 2008). In Japan, the government plays the primary role in mobilizing investment resources. Although the country has both private and public sectors, the private sector is relatively dominated by the public sector. In a nutshell, differences between the types of resources used by Japan and U.S.A to grow their economies are based on the source of mobilization and the positioning of human resources and the labor market in their relative

Virtual Classroom Essay Example for Free

Virtual Classroom Essay In the rapidly changing way that information exchange takes place during our times, the Virtual Classroom Information System, or simply Virtual Classroom, demonstrates very effectively that technology can be explored and utilized to make new ways to do old things, and at the same time be more efficient in doing it. The Virtual Classroom is a web-based information system that basically allows a class to take place over the internet and through a website, breaking the restrictions imposed by distance. It provides a venue where students and teachers can meet, albeit virtually, and do the things that are normally done inside actual classrooms. Although communication is limited through the computer as compared to meeting personally, the Virtual Classroom provides alternative ways that were still effective in providing the users with the information they need. The Virtual Classroom provides functionalities for the following different kinds of users: system administrator, teacher, and student. The system administrator, or sysad for short, is not necessarily the system owner. The system owner is the school who bought a copy of Virtual Classroom and had it installed in a server to be used by that particular school. The system administrator is preferably someone from the school administration. The system administrator has complete control over the system as he/she is the one who has the highest privileges in accessing the system. It is up to the sysad to populate the database with the available classes, and later assign teachers to handle those classes. He/she has the responsibility of managing all other user accounts, be it a teacher or a student account, involved in the system. The system administrator is like a moderator that sees to it that everything is in place and working well. The teacher has lesser privileges compared to the system administrator. He/she is allowed to upload files such as documents, pictures, or animations for the students to download. Also, the teacher can give exams or quizzes through the internet, which are automatically corrected and computed when answered by the students. The teacher is also in charge of the management of the forum of the class which he or she is teaching. At the end of the semester, the teacher can submit the final computed grades through the system. The system developer is preferably someone involved with the system as he or she needs to be well aware of the concerns and requirements asked by the system. The developer should have at least made thorough consultations with the members of the faculty, the students, and most especially the school administration. The Knowledge Building Block The knowledge building block is basically the information available for the system. This is mainly about populating the database with enough data for it to run effectively. With regards to the Virtual Classroom, the knowledge building block contributed by the system administrator consists of the list of students currently enrolled in a particular school, and the list of teachers who are currently available for teaching. This also includes personal information such as student number, name, course, year level and other basic information that the school needs to know. Also, the list of available classes that students can enlist to is populated by the system administrator. The teacher is left with the uploading of the necessary lecture files for the classes assigned to him. Also, exam questions would come from the teacher with the corresponding answer key for the system to automatically check the paper and compute the scores when answered. The Process Building Block This part of the information system is concerned about what the system does with the information, or knowledge, that is made available to it. Basically, a process takes input data and modifies it based on the conditions and logic provided by the system, then finally, outputs the data needed by the users. With the Virtual Classroom, one process is the assignment of the teachers for each class offered by the school. The system should see to it that there will not be conflicts with the schedule. When uploading the files of newer version, the system would automatically replace the old ones and sees to it that the concerned students will be notified either by email or through SMS, if the phone number is supplied by the user. Also, when a student finishes answering an exam, the system automatically checks it and outputs the results for the teacher to see. The Communications Building Block This block involves sending and receiving data between the users of the system. In terms of the Virtual Classroom, the communications block plays a major part in it, because the classroom is basically having a teacher communicate with a group of students so that the students will learn something from it. In this regard, there are several ways that the concerned users can communicate through the system. First, there is a general messaging system. The system allows any user to send a private message to another user, or group of users as long as the sender has prior knowledge of the recipient’s username. Upon receiving the message, the user has options to reply. In addition to this, there is also a message board per class. The management of this board is the responsibility of the teacher because this is where class discussions will take place, and although slow and not as efficient compared to the real classroom experience, information is guaranteed to be transmitted. An important part of this system is the notification system that contacts the needed users through email or through SMS, whichever is available, when something of great importance and ugency demands his or her attention.

Occlusal Stent Construction Research

Occlusal Stent Construction Research Initial examination was carried out consisting of evaluation the periodontal condition of the teeth. After selecting the suitable patients for the study, all of them received supra gingival scaling and polishing with a good motivation and instruction in oral hygiene measures including brushing, using dental floss and interproximal brushes as indicated and demonstration was given to them about the work of perio Q gel and it’s application . An alginate impression was taken and an occlusal stent was constructed for each patient. After completion of the occlusal stent construction, the patient was recalled again and this was considered the first visit. In this visit the clinical periodontal examination was carried out for the selected sites and it included the following parameters: Plaque Index (PLI) :- (Silness and Loe 1964) A periodontal probe was used after air drying of the teeth and the selected sites were examined for plaque. The periodontal probe was gently passed along the gingival crevice. The criteria was the following: Score 0: No plaque in the gingival area. Score 1: A film of plaque adhering to the free gingival margin and adjacent area of the tooth surface, which cannot be seen with the naked eye but only by using disclosing solution or by using probe. Score 2: Moderate accumulation of soft deposits within the gingival pocket, on the gingival margin and or adjacent tooth surface which can be seen by naked eye. Score 3: Abundance of soft matter within the gingival pocket and or on the gingival margin and adjacent tooth. Gingival Index (GI): (Loe, 1967). The occurrence of gingival inflammation was assessed using the criteria of gingival index system Score 0: Normal gingiva. Score 1: Mild inflammation, slight change in color, slight edema, and no bleeding on probing Score 2: Moderate inflammation, redness and glazing, bleeding on probing. Score 3: Severe inflammation, marked redness and ulceration, tendency to spontaneous bleeding. Bleeding on Probing (BOP) :- (Carranza, 2012). A blunt periodontal probe inserted to the bottom of the periodontal pocket/sulcus and is moved gently along the root surface. If bleeding occurred within 30 seconds after probing, the site was given positive score (1), and a negative score (0) for the non-bleeding site Probing Pocket Depth (PPD): (Lindhe et al.,1998) The probing pocket depth was measured with a Williams periodontal probe at four sites of all teeth on (mesial, buccal, distal and lingual), the distance from gingival margin to the most apical extent of the probe inserted parallel to the long axis of the tooth to the nearest millimeter (mm) was recorded only for the sites exhibiting probing depth of (5-8)mm. Relative Attachment Level (RAL): The occlusal stent was adjusted to fit the teeth, then vertical grooves or holes corresponding to the probed site were made using rotary fissure bur, these grooves provided a fixed reference mark for probe insertion and angulation. The stent was putted on the occlusal surfaces to cover half or 2/3 of the crown. The distance from the base of the pocket to the lower border of the stent at the base of the groove was considered as the RAL. The measurement was made to the nearest mm . The clinical periodontal recordings were repeated after 3 and 6 weeks. Treatments After recording of all periodontal parameters for the selected sites, the patient mouth was splitted into three quadrants, each quadrant received different treatment modality and as follows: Initial visit (1stday): patient selection, supra gingival scaling, alginate impression, motivation, instruction. . Gel group: 111 sites in this group received intra pocket application of perio Q gel. The selected sites were isolated by cotton rolls and dried the teeth by air, and then dried the pockets by paper point size (30, 35, 40, and 45).the application of the gel was made using disposable syringe of 5ml. the sharp tip of needle was removed by rotary bur to avoid hurting the gingival tissue and smoothened it, then 1 ml of the gel was pulled by the syringe and the needle gently placed down through the pocket until it reach to the bottom of the pockets then placed the gel while worked the way up until the gingival margin. Each pocket was received a range of (0.1-0.3) ml., the excess gel oozing from the pockets was removed by Cotton rolls The patients were instructed to avoid spitting, washing, eating and drinking for 2 hours of the gel application. Toothbrush and interdental aids should paused of the day after the gel application. Combination group: 106 sites in this group received scaling and root planing, then after one hour, the patient examined if there was no blood oozing, then the gel applied as was described previously. If not, the patient was referred to the next day. Scaling and root planning group: 106 sites in this group received scaling and root planning only. Pilot study To perform intra examiner calibration and inter examiner calibration with clinical periodontal parameters used in this study (PLI, GI, BOP, PPD, RALI), a pilot study was carried out in Department of periodontics, College of Dentistry, Baghdad University. It was carried at about four weeks before the conduction of the actual project on two subject with twelve-sites. The intra examiner calibration was repeated after an appropriate period (usually 2-4 weeks) to resolve any memory bias. While the inter examiner calibration was repeated by another trained professional at the same time. The consistency (calibration) should be at least 90% and if it is low, the measurement should be repeated. Statistical Analysis Data were processed and analyzed using SPSS 16 for windows8 (statistical package for social science) and excel 2013.both descriptive and inferential analyses Descriptive Statistics Tables (Range, Frequencies and Percentage) Arithmetic Mean Standard Deviation Mean Difference. Median Minimum and Maximum Graphical Presentation by Bar Charts and Scattered Plots. Inferential Statistics There was used to accept or reject the statistical hypotheses, which included: Analysis of Variance Test(ANOVA) One Way Student t-Test for equality of means of two independent groups. Criticism of Organized Religion in Little Boy Lost and Little Boy Found

Criticism of Organized Religion in Little Boy Lost and Little Boy Found Organized religion and its adversity to the natural world is a topic that William Blake addresses quite frequently in his writings. In "Little Boy Lost," from Songs of Innocence, Blake presents a young child, representing the fledgling mind, getting lost in the dark forest of the material world. The illustration at the top of the page shows the little boy being led by a light or spirit of some kind, the "vapour" that Blake later speaks of. The boy cries out to his father, not his biological father, but the priest that has been guiding him on his education of the world thus far. The priest is moving too fast for the boy and leaves him behind to wander through the thick mire of the world of man alone. In the next plate, "Little Boy Found," Blake reconciles the negative image of the priest and religion that was presented in the previous work. It begins by recounting the tale of the boy who got lost by following the "wandering light" of the priest's version of religion. God hears the boy's cries and comes to his rescue "like his father in white." This could be referring to God appearing as human, or Jesus, or in the image of his father, the priest. God leads the child back to his mother, the mother earth, depicted at the right of the stanza, perhaps with wings. The mother earth had been seeking her natural child who had been led astray by the misconceptions of man-made religion. The illustration at the top of the plate shows the little boy and a female figure, presumably the mother earth, both with halos, walking through the forest hand in hand. This hints at the divination of man in his proper natural context. Blake is making a statemen... ...nity of all living things, including himself. The harsh reaction of organized religion to this idea is illustrated in the second "Little Boy Lost," in which the youth is actually burned for his rebellious thinking. The first set of poems tells of the boy's lack of success in a religious system in that did not seem to really care about the boy, and left him floundering. It then describes his introduction to God in the forest, who brought him back to his mother, the earth, which showed him proper reverence of God through nature, not priestly education. The second poem captures organized religion's harsh reaction to this unorthodox and rebellious thinking, and destroys the boy for trying to reach outside of the accepted normal teachings. Together, the poems show an evolution from Blake's dissatisfaction with organized religion to an outright indictment of its practices.

Nursing

Community nurses are the nurses who work in a particular community for its welfare. With their ability to understand, they can deal with the health of residents living in any community. They work in the field of public health in order to perform tasks including population and community evaluation, development and implementation of community health programs and working in teams in order to work with discipline. Nurses in acute care settings work along with other health care specialists (Green, 27). The nurse is involved in the healing, security and recovery of intensely sick patients, looking after the health of healthy patience and operations of patients who are suffer from life threatening ailment. They perform non-clinical job that are vital for health care. Death and birth care is also provided by the nurses. Nurses practice in variety of acute settings that are available to them. They work in hospitals, schools, pharmaceutical companies, clinics, camps, militaries (Burbach, 98). Even though, nurses from different area of expertise seem to be more or less in abilities, we cannot conclude that nurses working in acute care settings are not capable. For example, Nurses working in critical care settings are experts on pregnancy and birth related aspects than community nurses. The question comes whether to justify that it is a false impression or a fact that a skill in one setting can be use as a skill in another (Humphrey, 19). When developing intermediary plans with requirements of constant management, the need of feedback and extra training is mandatory. This can help the nurses to put into practice and increase experience in non acute care settings before complete service changes are ready. This would enable the nurses to use their abilities and be confident to work in non acute settings. Equally essential, it is important for non acute setting nurses to continue with their education (Conrad, 28). The skills of dressing and taking care of wounds, having complete knowledge about the community’s resources, information on diabetes, patient family support and good communication skills with third party payers are very important when working in the community. These are the skills that help the nurse when working in the community. These nurses work under their leaders, learn in the learning atmosphere and accommodate themselves to adjustments to changes (Feldman, 17). They have the ability to work efficiently which has been dictated to them. They have the ability to work in a peaceful atmosphere and ignoring their colleague’s weaknesses. Nurses working in acute settings require the information, capabilities and experience to take care of their patients and the families. At the same time, the nurse creates loving, kind and restoring health environment. At the same time, they fulfill various responsibilities. They work directly with patients, they provide education to fresh nurses, they work as researchers, and they are managers (Shea, 67). A community nurse works independently as compared with nurses who work in acute settings. The main aim of a community nurse is to focus on the population and persons who do not necessarily seek out the services. Nurses working in acute care settings differ from community nurses in many ways. Nurses working in acute care settings do not have the access to direct clinical practice. They do not have the advance skills to provide education and teaching skills to patients and family (Loreti, 32). They work under superiors. They are not consultants and they do not take part in research. They carry out duties that are instructed to them. They do not require any leadership quality. They do not write policies or build partnerships.   They are restricted in certain working conditions (Stephany, 13). Nurses working in the acute care settings assess the critical and acute patient’s health status. Community nurses have to demonstrate the ability to make decisions for a variety of situations. They also need to demonstrate the need for promoting the rights of clients. They have to ensure the safety of their patients. Communications skills are very important for nurses working in the community and acute care settings. However community nurses require effective communication skills as compared with nurses working in acute care settings because the former might interact with poor and marginalized sections of society. A community nurse has to reflect primary health care principles to ensure that clients become independent and responsible (Brent, 10). An acute setting nurse on the other hand has to keep and document the health history of critical and chronically ill patients. A community nurse must have leadership and management skills to ensure that multiple approaches are used to assist the client in health issues (Wood, 17). Community nurses have to apply a public health framework to build community health nursing. They must plan and integrate health promotion into the aspects of community health nursing. They must also apply knowledge of health promotion to achieve public health policies (Hunt, 36). They must coordinate the development and implementation of health promotion plans. An acute settings nurse on the other hand is more concerned with assessing the needs of additional screening after initial assessment findings. They must have adequate skills to assess the impact of acute or chronic injuries on the individual (Bailey, 714). A nurse working in acute settings needs to be very quick and capable of working with complex and dependant patients. In the community settings, assessment and decision making abilities play an important role in the delivery of patient care. Nurses in the acute settings must quickly identify outcomes based on actual or potential diagnosis (Sobolewski, 12). Intervention plans are individualized according to the characteristics of the patients. The plan is developed in collaboration with other health professionals and family members.   They ensure that there is continuity of care and properly documented. A community nurse on the other hand must demonstrate the ability to have effective problem solving strategies. They must also make the use of systematic decision making techniques. These decisions need to be based on experience and clinical judgment. Community nurses have a higher degree of autonomy as compared with nurses working in acute settings. They have to participate in decision making to ensure accountability. They must also make appropriate solutions in response to a range of options (Harris, 14). Nurses in the community need to demonstrate the ability to make autonomous decisions and independence. They have to resolve complex situations using multiple approaches. A nurse working in the acute setting on the other hand does not have a high degree of autonomy. They also do not need to demonstrate a level of independence. Nurses working in the community differ from those who work in acute settings. They have work in developing community health programs and teams. Nurses in acute settings on other hand work for healing and recovery of intensely sick patients. Works Cited: Burbach CA. Community health and home health nursing: keeping the concepts clear. Being a nurse will complement not only most people but my well-being as well. To become a nurse you need to be compassionate and able to pass college algebra and several science courses such as microbiology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology. I also need to take psychology, social sciences, and be proficient at written and oral communication. I need to be able to read at a tenth grade level. For many, 9/11 was a turning point in their professional lives. People began to find they were not satisfied in jobs that didn't make a difference in someone's life. Others had always wanted to become a nurse but other factors influenced their decisions and now they want to pursue a career in nursing. I might find it easier than you thought to have a second career as a nurse. Nursing is extremely hard work, both physically and emotionally. Not everyone is cut out for it. It's not just the blood and gore that might make you think twice. I have to understand what nursing involves before you choose this route. I don't have to just work in a hospital to be a nurse. I am about to find out more opportunities for nurses as well as the educational requirements to achieve these roles. Healthcare is one of the fastest growing professions throughout the world. The population ages, and healthcare costs rise, the demand for nurses will continue to increase as well. The health care delivery system is shifting, and nurses, particularly those with advanced education, will be in demand for quite some time.   With the rising costs of healthcare, physicians are spending less time with patients, and nurses are shifting into an ever expanding role of health educator, as well as providing more direct care to the patients. Effects of Nursing Shortage The present population of nurses is aging and approaching retirement. This will compound the current shortage of nurses worldwide. I am bent to become one of one the thousands of nurses that aspire to undertake this profession. The shortage nurses are causing a dramatic increase in salaries for nurses but this is not a hindrance to become a nurse. For one to become a nurse, he or she should be more than dedicated with his profession. Patients are to be treated like they are family as well, so as to feel at home during their confinement in the hospital. Hospitals and other facilities are competing for nurses with sign-on bonuses, and packages including cars, childcare and/or eldercare assistance, and housing assistance. Attractive salaries, bonuses, and job security are not the only benefits for nurses. Caring for others and making a difference in the lives of others everyday is a rewarding aspect to a career in nursing. It's something that can be said to be missing in many careers. The shortage of nurses has forced employers to not only adjust salaries, but to look outside the box at alternative and flexible working conditions. Many more opportunities are available for per diem, part time as well as full time employees. Flexible work schedules and job sharing opportunities are emerging in the field to help nurses meet the demands of their families while managing a rewarding career. One way you can see for yourself first hand is to become a patient, but that is not the recommended route. Many young people choose nursing because of past experiences as a patient or through the experiences of a loved one or a close friend. Other ways include volunteering in a local hospital. Many still use candy stripers, or have auxiliaries which train volunteers to read to patients, to assist with wheelchair transportation at discharge, running library carts, etc. Another way is to seek out a shadow day experience. Talk to your guidance counselor and see if it is possible to set one up. Sometimes local hospitals and clinics offer these periodically. Call your local facility and inquire. Perhaps you ca help them to do this if they don't already. Nursing schools may offer shadow day experiences. Some are beginning to offer Nursing Camps for a week during the summer. You live on campus and attend events and tours of their hospital facilities. You shadow nurses, and earn your CPR. You may also learn to take vital signs and visit laboratory facilities. You may get to enter a hyperbaric chamber and observe in the Emergency rooms and Operating Rooms. Yet this is what I aspire to be. Nursing is not just a profession for me it is passion that will take me places and would complement me as a person. Nursing Nursing is involved in identifying its own unique knowledge base—that is, the body of knowledge essential to nursing practice, or a so-called nursing science. To identify this knowledge base, nurses must develop and recognize concepts and theories that are specific to nursing. Theory has been defined as a supposition or system of ideas that is proposed to explain a given phenomenon. For now, think of theory as a major, very well articulated idea about something important. The four most influential theories from the 20th century were Marx’s theory of alienation, Freud’s theory of the unconscious, Darwin’s theory of evolution, and Einstein’s theory of relativity. Most undergraduate students are introduced to the major theories in their disciplines. Psychology majors study Freud and Jung’s theories of the unconscious, Sullivan and Piaget’s theories of development, and Skinner’s theory of behaviorism. Psychology majors are also introduced to critiques of those theories. Sociology majors study Marx’s theory of alienation and Weber’s theories of modern work, as well as the critiques of their theories. Both sociology and psychology majors spend the majority of their time studying theories and approaches to research. This paper discusses how nursing theory is different from medicine. II. Background A. Purposes of Nursing Theory Direct links exist among theory, education, research, and clinical practice. a)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In Education Because nursing theory was used primarily to establish the profession’s place in the university, it is not surprising that nursing theory became more firmly established in academia than in clinical practice. In the 1970s and 1980s, many nursing programs identified the major concepts in one or two nursing models, organized these concepts into a conceptual framework, and attempted to organize the entire curriculum around that framework. The unique language in these models was typically introduced into program objectives, course objectives, course descriptions, and clinical performance criteria. The purpose was to elucidate the central meanings of the profession and to gain status vis-à  -vis other professions. Occasionally, the language of nursing syllabi became so torturous that neither the faculty nor the students had a clear understanding of what was meant. Many nursing programs have abandoned theory-driven conceptual frameworks. III. Discussion A. In Research Nurse scholars have repeatedly insisted that nursing research identifies the philosophical assumptions or theoretical frameworks from which it proceeds. That is because all thinking, writing, and speaking is based on previous assumptions about people and the world. New theoretical perspectives provide an essential service by identifying gaps in the way we approach specific fields of study such as symptom management or quality of life. Different theoretical perspectives can also help generate new ideas, research questions, and interpretations. Grand theories only occasionally direct nursing research. Nursing research is more often informed by midlevel theories that focus on the exploration of concepts such as pain, self-esteem, learning, and hardiness. Qualitative research in nursing and the social sciences can also be grounded in theories from philosophy or the social sciences. The term critical theory is used in academia to describe theories that help elucidate how social structures affect a wide variety of human experiences from art to social practices. In nursing, critical theory helps explain how these structures such as race, gender, sexual orientation, and economic class affect patient experiences and health outcomes. a)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In Clinical Practice Where nursing theory has been employed in a clinical setting, its primary contribution has been the facilitation of reflection, questioning, and thinking about what nurses do. Because nurses and nursing practice are often subordinated to powerful institutional forces and traditions, the introduction of any framework that encourages nurses to reflect on, think about, and question what they do provides an invaluable service. An increasing body of theoretical scholarship in nursing has been outside the framework of the formal theories presented in the next pages. Benner (2000) argues that formalistic theories are too often superimposed on the life-worlds of patients, overshadowing core values of the profession and our patient’s humanity. Philosophy is used to explore both clinical and theoretical issues in the journal Nursing Philosophy. Family theorists and critical theorists have encouraged the profession to move the focus from individuals to families and social structures. Debates about the role of theory in nursing practice provide evidence that is nursing is maturing, both as an academic discipline and as a clinical profession. B. Nursing Theories The nursing theories discussed in this paper vary considerably (a) in their level of abstraction; (b) in their conceptualization of the client, health/illness, environment, and nursing; and (c) in their ability to describe, explain, or predict. Some theories are broad in scope; others are limited. The works presented in this paper may be categorized as philosophies, conceptual frameworks or grand theories, or midlevel theories (Tomey, 2001). A philosophy is often an early effort to define nursing phenomena and serves as the basis for later theoretical formulations. Examples if philosophies are those of Nightingale, Henderson, and Watson. Conceptual models/grand theories include those of Orem, Rogers, Roy, and King, whereas midlevel theorists are Peplau, Leininger, Parse, and Neuman. a)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Nightingale’s Environmental Theory Florence Nightingale, often considered the first nurse theorist, defined nursing more than 100 years ago as â€Å"the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery (Nightingale, 1999). She linked health with five environmental factors: (1) pure or fresh air, (2) pure water, (3) efficient drainage, (4) cleanliness and (5) light, especially direct sunlight. Deficiencies These environmental factors attain significance when one considers that sanitation conditions in the hospitals of the mid-1800s were extremely poor and that women working in the hospitals were often unreliable, uneducated, and incompetent to care for the ill. In addition to those factors, Nightingale also stressed the importance of keeping the client warm, maintaining a noise-free environment, and attending of the client’s diet in terms of assessing intake, timeliness of the food, and its effect on the person (Nightingale, 1999). Nightingale set the stage for further work in the development of nursing theories. Her general concepts about ventilation, cleanliness, quiet, warmth, and diet remain integral parts of nursing and health care today. b)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Roger’s Science of Unitary Human Beings Martha Rogers first presented her theory of unitary human beings in 1970. It contains complex conceptualizations related to multiple scientific disciplines (e.g., Einstein’s theory of relativity, Burr and Northrop’s electrodynamic theory of life; von Bertalanffy’s general systems theory; and many other disciplines, such as anthropology, psychology, sociology, astronomy, religion, philosophy, history, biology, and literature. Rogers views the person as an irreducible whole, the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Whole is differentiated from holistic, the latter often being used to mean only the sum of all parts. She states that humans are dynamic energy fields in continuous exchange with environmental fields, both of which are infinite. The â€Å"human field image† perspective surpasses that of the physical body. Both human and environmental fields are characterized by pattern, a universe of open systems, and four dimensionalities (Rogers, 2000). Nurses applying Roger’s theory in practice (a) focus on the person’s wholeness, (b) seek to promote symphonic interaction between the two energy fields (human and environment) to strengthen the coherence and integrity of the person, (c) coordinate the human field with the rhythmicities of the environmental field, and (d) direct and redirect patterns of interaction between the two energy fields to promote maximum health potential. Nurses’ use of non-contact therapeutic touch is based on the concept of human energy fields. The qualities of the field vary from person to person and are affected by pain and illness. Although the field is infinite, realistically it is most clearly â€Å"felt† within several feet of the body. Nurses trained in non-contact therapeutic touch claim they can assess and feel the energy field and manipulate it to enhance the healing process of people who are ill or injured (Rogers, 2000). c)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Orem’s General Theory of Nursing Dorothea Orem’s theory, first published in 1971, includes the related concepts: self-care, self-care deficit, and nursing systems. Self-care theory is based in four concepts: self-care, self-care agency, self-care requisites, and therapeutic self-care demand. Self-care refers to those activities an individual performs independently throughout life to promote and maintain personal well-being. Self-care agency is the individual’s ability to perform self-care activities. It consists of two agents: A self-care agent (an individual who performs self-care independently) and a dependent care agent (a person other than the individual who provides the care) (Orem, 2001). Most adults care for themselves, whereas infants and people weakened by illness or disability require assistance with self-care activities. Self-care requisites, also called self-care needs, are measures or actions taken to provide self-care. Self-care deficit results when self-care agency is not adequate to meet the known self-care demand. Orem’s self-care deficit theory explains not only when nursing is needed but also how people can be assisted through five methods of helping; acting or doing for, guiding, teaching, supporting, and providing an environment that promotes the individual’s abilities to meet current and future demands. d)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   King’s Goal Attainment Theory Imogene King’s theory of goal attainment was derived from her conceptual framework. King’s framework shows the relationship of operational systems (individuals), interpersonal systems (groups such as nurse-patient), and social systems (such as educational system, health care system). She selected 15 concepts from the nursing literature (self, role, perception, communication, interaction, transaction, growth and development, stress, time, personal space, organization, status power, authority, and decision making) as essential knowledge for use by nurses. Ten of the concepts in the framework were selected (self, role, perception, communication, interaction, transaction, growth and development, stress, time, and personal space) as essential knowledge for use by nurses in concrete nursing situations. Within this theory, a transaction process model was designed (King, 2001). This process describes the nature of and standard for nurse—patient interactions that leads to goal attainment— that nurses purposefully interact and mutually set, explore, and agree to means to achieve goals. Goal attainment represents outcomes. When this information is recorded in the patient record, nurses have data that represent evidence-based nursing practice. King’s theory offers insight into nurses’ interactions with individuals and groups within the environment. It highlights the importance of a client’s participation in decisions that influence care and focuses on both the process of nurse-client interaction and the outcomes of care (King, 2001). IV. Conclusion In the natural sciences, the main function of theory is to guide research. In the practice disciples, the main function of theory (and research) is to provide new possibilities for understanding the discipline’s focus (music, art, management, and nursing). To Nightingale, the knowledge required to provide good nursing was neither unique nor specialized. Rather, Nightingale viewed nursing as central human activity grounded in observation, reason, and commonsense health practices. Theories articulate significant relationship between concepts in order to point something larger, such as gravity, the unconscious, or the experiences of pain. Reference: Benner, P. (2000).
